Cover letters

Cover letters that recruiters actually read

A cover letter has one job: make the reader want to open your resume with context. If it repeats your resume, it fails.

Open with the specific role and a hook

Name the role in the first line, then say one concrete thing that connects you to this employer: a product you use, or a problem you have solved that they have. No "I am writing to apply for...".

Keep it to one page, three paragraphs

  1. Why this role and employer, specifically.
  2. One proof point: a result that maps to what they need.
  3. A short closing with a clear next step.

Avoid the tells

  • Templates with a swapped company name: readers notice immediately.
  • Restating your resume line by line.
  • Grand claims with no proof, and heavy AI phrasing.

In PocketResume, flip one toggle and every generated resume comes with a matching single-page cover letter written for that specific posting, in the same voice as your resume.
