4,000 job seekers later: what we learned about resume tailoring

PocketResume crossed 4,000 weekly users this month. The interesting part is not the number. It is that a tool with no account requirement, no resume upload, and no tracking of your documents got there at all.

What the number measures

As of October 2026, more than 4,000 job seekers use PocketResume in a given week. That is weekly active usage counted from anonymous extension events, not installs and not sign-ups. A privacy-first tool owes you a precise definition: it means someone opened a posting and ran the tool that week, nothing more.

What changed over the last year

  • Check ATS, so you can see parser problems and missing keywords before you apply.
  • Refine Resume, with before and after ATS scores on the same screen.
  • Cover letters generated from the posting, not a template with a swapped company name.
  • The AI form filler, which drafts answers and leaves the submit button to you.
  • Four layouts, from a clean one-pager to a full academic CV.
  • Optional cloud sync, still off until you sign in and enable it.

Tailoring still beats volume

Every shortcut people try, spray-and-pray included, still loses to the boring routine: read the posting, mirror its vocabulary, and lead each bullet with the outcome that matches what they asked for. The tool only makes that routine fast. It does not replace the judgement about which experience is relevant.

That is also why we refuse to let the model invent anything. A resume that claims a promotion you did not get is not an optimization. It is a problem scheduled for the interview.

What is next

The roadmap stays focused on the same loop: find the posting, tailor the resume, check it, fill the form, and keep every fact yours. If there is a step in that loop that still costs you more than a minute, that is what we want to hear about.
